With just one month left before the year ends, this resort island remain on track of its target number of tourist arrivals for 2015.
From January to November this year, Boracay received a total of 1,424,259 foreign and local tourists, higher compared to the same period of last year of only 1,354,347, data from the Malay Tourism Office showed.
It is only short of 75,741 to achieve the target of 1.5 million tourists.
With the start of the peak season in Boracay and the holidays this December, the Department of Tourism is confident that the island will likely hit the target this year.
Last year, a total of 188,005 visited the island for the month of December.
Meanwhile, of the 1,424,259 recorded tourists during the 11-month period, a total of 698,281 were foreign visitors.
Philippine residents were 688,362 while 37,616 were overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
The highest number of visitors was recorded in the month of April with 178,656 followed by May with 168,025 due to the long Holy Week vacation and the Labor Day Weekend celebration dubbed as Laboracay.
On November alone, a total of 117,460 tourists visited Boracay.
The DOT-Boracay attributed the increase to the continued promotion of Boracay abroad and the cruise visits contributed to the increase. Last year, Boracay welcomed a total of 1,472,352 tourists.*
