BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan -- While tourists from Asian region continue to dominate in this resort island, the local tourism office here aims to focus its promotional activities to attract visitors from other regions this year.
Felix delos Santos, Malay chief tourism officer, said Boracay aims to target more tourists from Europe and America.
Delos Santos said there is a big potential for both European and American market to increase this year because they were already among the top visitors in 2015.
Last year's tourism data showed that visitors from America (25,403) were the Top 5 visitors of the island while visitors from United Kingdom (14,210) ranked ninth on the Top 10 list.
On the other hand, the island aims to maintain the steady increase of tourist arrivals from other Asian countries which are all included in the Top 10 - Malaysia, Singapore and Japan, Delos Santos added.
Tourists from Korea, China and Taiwan meanwhile remained as the top visitors of the island.
Meanwhile, the tourism chief is also optimistic to achieve the 1.7 million tourist target this year.
"We are set to promote Boracay in a number of promotional and marketing activities both in national and international market," he said.
Among these are the World Travel Mart in London; ITB Berlin Convention, an international travel mart in Germany as well as in the Philippine Travel Mart in Manila.
